Curtis James Jackson III (born 6 July 1975), better known by his stage name 50 Cent, is an American rapper, entrepreneur, investor, and actor from New York City, New York. Born and raised in the South Jamaica neighborhood of Queens, Jackson began selling drugs at age twelve during the 1980s crack epidemic. Although he left drug dealing to pursue a musical career in the late 1990s, he was involved in a near-fatal shooting in 2000. After Jackson released the mixtape Guess Who’s Back? in 2001, he was discovered by Eminem and signed to Shady Records, Aftermath Entertainment and Interscope Records.
